Home additions, when the house needs a room it does not have
We have framed a two-story addition onto an existing house. The photos show sheathing and framing. They are not a finished exterior, and a frame that includes a person is not published here.
Esre Vinu told KSL.com on April 21, 2026 that a lot of the homeowners they meet are adding on, finishing basements, and renovating kitchens and baths so they can stay put. An addition is that kind of project: a bedroom, a larger kitchen, or a suite the current footprint does not have.
A home addition with UNIVERSE Construction in Utah and Salt Lake Counties starts at $315 per square foot on the Good finish level in the quote tool, $438 on Better, and $617 on Best. A 400 square foot project at the Good rate is $126,000. Those figures are planning estimates from square footage times a finish level, and the written bid comes after a free in-home visit.
The quote tool's addition example is 400 square feet. A sunroom and a two-story addition are not the same structure, and the written bid comes after we see the house, the foundation line, and what the city will require for a permit. We do not publish a license number.
